I’m one of those people who have a hard time sleeping without their pillow (I’ve been known to stuff one in my suitcase when traveling). But while in Italy on a river cruise this summer, I was presented with a pillow menu—a list of pillow options ranging from ones that cradled my neck to those that supported my back. “There’s no reason someone shouldn’t sleep as well on vacation as they do at home,” says Ellen Bettridge, President & CEO of Uniworld, the cruise line on which I was traveling.
And while it's nice to have options while you're traveling, the good news is you don’t need to fly to Italy to reap the benefits of a curated pillow menu. Ahead, we share a few of the most requested pillows from some of the top hotels and cruise lines in the world.
Harris Pillow Heavenly Down Pillow
This fiber-filled pillow mimics the soft feel of down without the feathers. “We enhance the sleep experience by offering guests complimentary sound machines, nighttime sleepy tea, and multiple pillow options, including this hypoallergenic faux down pillow,” says Carlo Carroccia, General Manager of the French Quarter Inn in Charleston, South Carolina.

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Neck Pillow
The contoured design of this pillow follows the natural curve of the body, supporting the head and neck. And according to Bettridge, this is essential for their guests. "Our pillow menu [offers] pillows with lots of neck and lumber support, including this one,” she says.

Filled with organic buckwheat hulls, this pillow molds to the shape of the head and neck, keeping them straighter while you sleep. “We offer six unique pillows to maximize guests’ comfort overnight—including this buckwheat pillow that provides firmness so you wake up feeling refreshed and a cassia seed pillow that exudes a light fragrance to help with sleep,” says Kurt Macher, General Manager, Shangri-La The Shard, London
Mediflow The Water Pillow
This water-filled pillow conforms to the shape of the head and has an adjustable pouch so you can customize the water level for a firm or soft feel. “This, along with an anti-snore pillow that elevates the chin to keep the airway open, are two popular pillow options at our hotel,” says Simon Chapman, General Manager, The Benjamin Royal Sonesta, New York City.
